Reading Volunteers - we need you!

Year 5 & 6 would really appreciate support with hearing children read. If you have some free time and would be interested in coming into school to hear individual children read, please get in touch. Reading volunteers are needed on Thursdays 9 - 10am.

Reading Diaries

Your child's reading experience is much more than the reading book which comes home from school. Reading is happening all the time in a classroom and in school. It is taught in specific reading and English lessons but children are practising and using their 'reading' constantly across all subjects too.

You can support this 'reading journey' through regular reading at home. Reading to and with your child every evening for at least ten minutes can make a dramatic difference to a child's achievement within school. A report from the Oxford University Press highlighted the importance of parents reading with their children. 'Children who read outside of class are 13 times more likely to read above the expected level for their age'.

We ask that you help by reading at home and completing your child's reading diary.  Thank you!

Check out these links for some inspiring titles.

Reminder - Pupil Information Forms

Please can you make sure that you have returned the pupil data / information form for your child as a matter of urgency.  It is vitally important that we have up to date information about all of our children.

UPLANDS MANOR POST BOX

We have a new post box in the Reception foyer for you to post any completed forms or letters.  If you do not need to speak to a Receptionist, please use the post box.  The post box will be emptied twice a day and this will save you having to wait to wait to simply hand in forms.

PROCEDURES IF YOU ARE LATE COLLECTING YOUR CHILD FROM SCHOOL

Any children who are not collected on time at the end of the school day are taken to the 4 Community Trust wraparound care.  Children must be collected from the after school club which is held at the Thompson Road entrance of school.

A charge of £3.00 is payable from 3.30 - 4pm.  This is payable by cash or card when you collect your child.   If you arrive after 4pm, a full charge of £9 will be due.

If you require an invoice, then the charge will increase to £5.00/£10 (due to the increased admin required and chasing payment).

Rags to Riches 4 Schools

The bags for our next used clothing collection have been sent home with the children this week.

The collection is at 9am on Wed 9th October and bags may be brought into school from Monday 7th and left in the playground gazebo as before. Thank you for your support as we try to raise money for school.

Aldi Kit for Schools

Uplands Manor is taking part in Aldi's Kit for Schools promotion this September, giving us a chance to win £20,000 to kick start a health legacy for our school.

We are asking parents to pick up a Team GB sticker whenever they spend £30 in any Aldi store and bring the sticker into school so it can be added to our Kit for Schools poster.

Please see the flyer (link below) for more information on what to donate.  Thank you for your support!
